Duct Insulation

Ducts that run through cold attics and basements lose heat through their walls the whole way. Insulating them keeps the air at the temperature your system worked to produce.

Paired with duct sealing, insulation stabilizes room temperatures and shortens how long your system needs to run. It also prevents condensation on AC ducts in summer.

Signs your home needs it

  • Long waits before vents blow properly hot or cold
  • Metal ducts that are hot or cold to the touch in the basement
  • Sweating ducts in summer
  • Rooms far from the furnace always lagging behind

What we do

  • Wrap accessible ducts in unconditioned spaces
  • Seal before insulating, always in that order
  • Use program-specified insulation levels
  • Leave clean access to dampers and equipment

What the Mass Save program covers

Duct insulation recommended in your no-cost assessment qualifies for Mass Save incentives as part of your home's weatherization plan.

Rebates and incentives are provided through the Mass Save program and subject to eligibility and program terms.

Common questions

Sealing or insulation, which first?
Sealing first, always. Insulating a leaky duct just hides the problem. We do both in the correct order.
Does it make the system quieter?
Often, yes, insulation dampens the metallic rush of air through unwrapped ducts.
Is it worth it with a new furnace?
Yes. Even a high-efficiency system wastes money pushing air through cold, leaky ducts.
